Circus Act

What do we love about the circus? As a member of the audience, we get to see people and animals doing things that we never imagined to be possible. The atmosphere is jovial and the next act is something we never expected. I think there is something about being taken by surprise that fills us with wonder.

The Peel

Our house is like a circus act at times. Depending on the time and day, the act will change. But, we are often taken by surprise and filled with wonder! I suppose that most days are like riding elephants and getting them to stand on tiny pedestals. It is pretty ridiculous, if you think about it, to try to get a behemoth to do something completely out of its nature. But, those are not the times when Thunderfoot has emerged.

When the circus act is featuring Thunderfoot, it reminds me of getting roaring lions to jump through rings of fire. The trapeze artists are like when Ken and I are passing the torch of responsibility back and forth so we can get out of the house. (Thank God for Google calendar!) The tightrope is how we feel when we have to tiptoe around the house because "someone" is watching football in the middle of the house and doesn't want to be disturbed by anyone. Finally, the clowns. This is how we feel at the end of most days when we can finally focus on our teenage boys - things come flying out of our mouths that are silly and ridiculous.

The Fruit

But, the most important act of the day is the man being catapulted out of the canon. Each night, we re-tell the stories from that day. During the day, the circus acts were not so fun. But, at night during this final act, we can laugh about them and empathize with each other's pain.

I want to take this opportunity to put the spotlight on Ken. During this CoronaVirus lockdown, he is on duty nearly 24/7. He IS the ring master in the big top. He has to figure out which act is coming up next and how to make it happen without any major catastrophes. He dedicates nearly all his time and energy to serve his father. My admiration of him has grown as I have witnessed him being willing to such an extent to lay down his self-interests and instead run into a burning building.

John 15:13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Thank you, Lord, for loving us sacrificially and then helping us to do the same. I don't know how we would be able to do this without you. Thank you for giving us each other as support. I don't know how I could do this without Ken.
